Russia to Ban Imports from Several Australian and Brazilian Enterprises
January 14, 2009
Federal Agency for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Supervision (Rosselkhoznadzor) has repressed supply of meat products to Russia from Brazil and Australia, as they constituted a threat for consumers’ health, as Vitaly Salenko, the official of Rosselkhoznadzor for Primorye Territory reported to RIA PrimaMedia.
Monitoring research of meat and meat products supplied to Russia showed the excess of cadmium maximum allowable limit in beef liver produced by one of Australian plants. Apart from that, a high ratio of antibiotics was detected in poultry and pork supplied from two Brazilian enterprises.
Thus, products produced at the aforementioned enterprises and shipped prior to December 17, 2008 will be licensed for entry to the Russian Federation only after a close laboratory testing.
Moreover, territorial departments of Rosselkhoznadzor will carry out complex inspections at the enterprises controlled by veterinary supervision, and first of all at freezing warehouses, where the products produced at those enterprises are stored. All the measures are to be taken to stop distribution of dangerous products which have been already imported.
Pursuant to the data of State Department of Veterinary Supervision at State Border and Transport of Rosselkhoznadzor Department for Primorye Territory, the restrictions were imposed on imports from Australian enterprise ¹ 224 which produces beef liver, as well as from two Brazilian enterprises ¹¹ SIF 437, SIF 60, which produce poultry and pork.
