According to a notice issued Thursday (July 1) by FSIS, the current Russia beef certificate may be used until the new certificates are available. There is a delay in the availability of Russia pork certificates, but they will be ready for distribution on July 2. Exporters should check with their inspector to be sure an order has been placed for new certificates. - More

Both FSIS and Russia’s Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance Service (VPSS) consider July 1, 2010, to be the issuance date, rather than a port arrival date, for the new certificate. Therefore, beginning July 1, the new certificate must be issued for all pork shipments to Russia. - More

Russia Pork Certificate Valid Until Aug. 1; Two States Added to Pork Suspension

USMEF has been working with USDA to gain clarification on the status of the current pork certificate with Russia, and Russian officials have now notified USDA that the certificate will be valid until Aug. 1. In this notification, Russia states that if negotiation of a new document is not completed before Aug. 1, further restrictions on U.S. exports will be considered. USMEF will be in consultation with trade officials from both countries to ensure completion by the Aug. 1 deadline. Temporary restrictions imposed by Russia on U.S. establishments 244L and 244W will take effect June 15 rather than June 6. However, this means product must be on a ship by June 15, as Russia did not grant the U.S. request to allow all products from animals slaughtered by June 6.
